San Bunthoeun's News License is Revoked

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Information has decided to revoke the broadcasting license from Mr. San Bunthoeun, as the license holder was found to have committed immoral acts that affect the dignity of professional journalists and violate the terms of the contract held with the Ministry.

In a proclamation issued on 22 August, the Minister of Information, Khieu Kanharith, stated that the decision to revoke the license granted to San Bunthoeun was made because the licensor was found to have committed immoral acts, thus insulting the public, affecting social morality and the honor and dignity of professional journalists. This is a serious violation of the journalistic profession and the business contract the applicant had filed with the Ministry of Information.

The decision to revoke San Bunthoeun's broadcasting license came just one day after Prime Minister Hun Sen reacted to a video livestream of Mr. Bunthoeun drinking, smashing dishes and cursing on his social media page. The Prime Minister said that "the bad character of San Bunthoeun cannot be changed" and ordered for his expulsion from the army.
